If you’ve never knit Half-Twisted Ribbing before, don’t worry—it’s much simpler than it sounds! In the Snapdragons Socks pattern, this stitch pattern plays a quiet but powerful role. It creates those lovely, slightly textured vertical lines that mimic snapdragon stems and help the socks hug your feet just right. ✨
What is Half-Twisted Ribbing?
Half-Twisted Ribbing is just your classic 1x1 rib, but with a twist—literally. On the knit stitches, you work through the back loop, which tightens them slightly and creates a beautifully defined column of stitches. The purl stitches are worked as usual.
It’s a subtle change, but it adds structure, stretch, and a touch of polish to your project—making it perfect for socks that are meant to be both beautiful and functional.
📝 How to Work It (in the Round):
Round 1: Using an even number of stitches, (Knit through the back loop [ktbl] 1, purl 1) across all stitches.
Repeat this round for as long as the ribbing section lasts in your pattern. That’s it!
Tip: Make sure you’re not twisting the purl stitches—just the knits. And if you ever lose track, twisted stitches look a little tighter and more diagonal than regular ones.
💡 Why I Love Using It
It’s just as easy to work as regular ribbing
It looks crisp and polished, even in variegated or speckled yarns
It adds gentle elasticity—perfect for a well-fitting sock
Whether you're knitting your Snapdragons Socks from the cuff-down or toe-up version, this detail adds just the right amount of floral elegance to your stitches. 🌸
