Hello!
Today's tutorial is all about adding some textural fun to your knitting by incorporating bobbles! These are fun pops that are much easier to make than they seem and can really give your knits some personality.
Bobbles are made by quickly increasing one or more stitches, working short-rows to make a small flap of fabric, then quickly decreasing the amount of stitches back to the original stitch count. This quick increase/decrease combo forces the extra fabric to cinch and bump out, creating the little bubble-like addition to the knitted fabric.
I've posted the video below along with supplies used and written instructions. If you have any questions, you can always email me directly: shaina@yumiyarns.com
Have fun & happy knitting!
Shaina ^_^
PS: The yarn featured in this tutorial is from from Suburban Stitcher in her Curry colorway. The project I'm knitting on is the Sip of Bobbly Socks, which are part of the 2021 Indie Sock-a-Long.
Supplies:
Knitting project with stitches live on the needles
Knitting Needles appropriate to the yarn
Step 1:
Work in pattern to the stitch you will be adding a bobble to.
Step 2:
Work a knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1 into the next stitch. (You are increasing from 1 stitch to 5 stitches, the rest of the bobble will be worked over these 5 stitches.) Turn your work.
Step 3:
Purl 5 stitches. Turn your work.
Step 4:
Knit 5 stitches. Turn your work.
Step 5:
Purl 5 stitches. Turn your work.
Step 6:
Slip 3 stitches to your right needle as if you were going to knit all 3 of them together, knit 2 stitches together (k2tog), pass the 3 slipped stitches over the k2tog stitch and off the right needle. You are now back to 1 stitch and have formed a bobble.
Continuation:
Continue in-pattern until it is time to make another bobble. Work steps 1-6 for the remainder of your pattern.
That's it!
Now you can easily add bobbles (and a bit of textural fun) to any project you choose!
