Meet the Maker

My Name is Shaina Scott
I’m the designer and creative voice behind Yumi Yarns, a knit and crochet design studio rooted in the quiet beauty of the Midwest. I create approachable, modern patterns for makers who love thoughtful details and timeless textures. My work blends natural inspiration with clean lines, inviting you to slow down, explore your creativity, and make pieces that truly feel like your own.
Crafted with Intention
At Yumi Yarns, every pattern is designed to support creativity, confidence, and connection—whether you're picking up your first project or refining your craft. With clear instructions, size-inclusive garments, and yarns from both indie dyers and trusted heritage brands, I create patterns that are both wearable and deeply enjoyable to make.
What is Midwest Modern?
Midwest Modern is the heart of Yumi Yarns. It’s a style that blends the warmth of tradition with a clean, intentional aesthetic. Inspired by the colors, quiet strength, and simplicity of the Midwest, this approach is all about creating with care.

About the Name
The name Yumi Yarns comes from a small but meaningful connection: both my name, Shaina, and the name Yumi mean “beautiful.” I chose it as a way to express my love of beautiful yarns, thoughtful design, and the creative transformations that happen in the hands of makers. While the name has Japanese origins, it reflects a shared meaning rather than a cultural affiliation, and the brand is rooted in my own Midwest background and design perspective.
