My Tagetes Shawlette begins with an I-Cord Tab Cast On, but it's slightly different than the usual one that's recommended for shawls. (I feel like this method is easier, but I may be biased. ^_- )
This tutorial will cover how I make my I-Cord Tab so that you don't have to pick up as many stitches as you're casting-on. The instructions listed below are easy to use for any other pattern that calls for an I-Cord Tab Cast On as well so it's a good technique to try out. You never know when a new skill will come in handy!
Appropriately Sized Knitting Needles
Featured Yarn in this Tutorial:
Biota Yarns' Rural; 100% Naturaly Dyed Targhee Wool (fingering weight)
I-Cord Tab Cast On:
Step 1. Cast on 3 stitches. Turn.
Step 2. Knit across. Turn.
Step 3. Knit front & back in the same stitch, knit 2. Slide 3 sts back to left needle. Don’t turn.
Step 4. Repeat Row 3 until you are 3 stitches short of the total amount of stitches needed for your pattern. Turn.
Step 5. With yarn held in front, slip 3 stitches, purl across. Turn.
Step 6. With RS facing & starting at the st furthest away from your live sts, pu 3 sts from right edge. Work Row 1 of your pattern excluding the first 3 knit sts.
Continue working pattern as instructed.
Try It Out!
It's best to put a new technique into practice right away so that you can remember it in the future. Here are some of my patterns that use an I-Cord Tab Cast On.
