Step by Step Mosaic Twist Left (WS) Knitting Tutorial

Hello!

This week I’ve got something new and a little unusual for you... a stitch that I've been unable to find online. Sometimes when I'm designing I just play with the yarn & see what happens. I had an idea in mind of the look I wanted to create for the Tales of Childhood Collection & just did what made sense at the time to achieve that look. I'm sure others have done this stitch before & it's just not very common, but it's always kind of exciting when it seems you've created a new way of doing things. (And it makes for a fun series of tutorial posts!)

This is the fourth of 4 ways to make a pair of Twisted Stitches in Mosaic knitting. You can also think of them as 2 color, 1/1 cables without a cable needle. They sound much more complicated than they actually are and are really fun to work once you get a rhythm going. This tutorial uses 2 stitches (1 in each color) and will teach you how to make the color in the foreground (the pink) lean to the left when you are working a Wrong Side row.

PS: The yarn featured in this tutorial is from Toad Hollow Yarns in the Mawwiage & Hanging the Stars Colorways. The project I'm knitting on is the Story Hour Shawl.

Materials:

A knitting project or swatch with stitches live on the needles
Knitting needles appropriate for your yarn

Step 1:

With yarn in front, insert the right needle into the next 2 stitches on the left needle as if to p2tog, slip them off the left needle & onto the right needle as one.

Step 2:

While keeping the first stitch on the right needle to the back, insert the left needle into the second stitch on the right needle from left to right.

Step 3:

Slip the right needle out of both 1st & 2nd stitchess (the first stitch is not on a needle at all and is loose). Insert right needle into the loose stitch purlwise...

Step 4:

...and purl it.

Step 5:

Slip the following stitch purlwise.

That's it!

You've just made a Mosaic Twist Left on the Wrong Side of your fabric!
